Boundaries
Forest Hill is bounded by Eglinton in the north and Tichester Road in the south, and it spans Bathurst Street in the west to Avenue Road in the east.
History
Forest Hill was originally called Spadina Heights, a name that was used for a long time. Forest Hill was one of the last few villages that were acquired and made a part of the city in the 1920’s. Though the early decades of the 20th century the region was inhabited mostly by Anglo-Saxons, there came to be a sizeable Jewish population as well. As time went by the Jewish population grew significantly. In fact according to the latest census, half of the population in Forest Hill follow the Jewish faith.
Neighbourhood Characteristics
Lying in Central Toronto, it is one of the e most xclusive neighbourhoods in the city today, being inhabited by the affluent and the super affluent. Stepping into Forest Hill, the magnificent splendour of its large homes is sure to catch the eye. It’s relatively small houses are constantly being torn down to make way for ultra modern super homes.
In tune with the houses, the people of this place also take pride in their position. Affluence and rich tastes mean that households are extravagant and take their reputation seriously. Most residents send their kids to only the top private schools in Toronto.
Even though it is almost entirely a residential area, there is a strip of retail and dining establishments in the area known as the Lower Village, roughly corresponding to the low lying areas of the original village of Forest Hill. As with the rest of the neighbourhood, the dining and retail strip also houses top-notch players, making it a great place for any upscale family to shop, dine, have a cup of coffee or unwind in general.
