Moore Park

Moore Park Real Estate

Boundaries
Moore Park lies along both sides of St. Clair Avenue East between the Vale of Avoca and Moore Park ravine. It extends north to the Mount Pleasant Cemetery and south to the CP Railway tracks.

History
The area owes it name to the neighbourhood’s rich and influential owner and developer – John Thomas Moore. He owned 100 hectares of land and in 1889 he started developing a new suburb for affluent Torontonians. To attract the investors and residential buyers, he undertook a couple of infrastructural projects to help improve connectivity with the rest of Toronto. He built a couple of bridge connections – one on St Clair and the second on Moore Avenue. While, the first bridge was a steel bridge over the Avoca Vale, the second one was a wooden bridge over Spring Valley ravine. He also oversaw the construction of Belt Line railway. Unfortunately, soon thereafter Canada went into economic depression and many companies including the Belt Line Railway went bankrupt and construction got pushed off for two to three decades.

Neighbourhood Characteristics
Today Moore Park gives you something fresh, its abundance of natural beauty makes this neighbourhood one of the more sought after neighborhoods in Toronto. In addition to the natural beauty Moore Park is renowned for its public and private schools. The neighbourhood is  equipped with a modern day library, fantastic & reliable public transport system, and access to natural beauty. In fact, homes in Moore Park are surrounded by plethora of greenery from its east, west and south. Essentially, the inhabitants are only minutes away from the purest form of nature – away from the busy life of the city. Adding to the beauty is an underground creek that flows from up-north and keeps on surfacing every here and there and finally merges into the Don River.

The houses originally built in the first three decades of the twentieth century are designed in the Tudor and Georgian style. Many new houses have been erected in the area in more recent times.
